Moving the Heavens – GDC 2014

The sky is one of the most integral parts of an outdoor composition – it dictates the lighting and color palette of the environment, it sets the emotional tone and drives the narrative, and frequently can consume a majority of the pixels on the screen.

Pretentious title aside, within this presentation, I’ll walk you through the artistic considerations of creating a compelling, dramatic sky for your levels. I’ll also introduce specific production challenges of the skies within The Last of Us, including how we were able to use math to imply the motion of the clouds receding into the horizon.

Join me for this 30 minute presentation at the Game Developers Conference 2014, Wednesday March 19th.
